GCR block descriptions: Mesozoic–Tertiary Stratigraphy 1997

Abstract

Provided here are the Mesozoic–Tertiary Stratigraphy GCR block descriptions, produced as part of the Geological Conservation Review. These ‘blocks’ provided an overall structure for site selection by ensuring that the different themes of geoheritage or Earth science would receive comparable treatment.

The Mesozoic–Tertiary Stratigraphy GCR block descriptions provided here include the following:

  • Block 1: Aalenian - Bajocian (AAL-BAJ);
  • Block 4: Aptian - Albian (APT-ALB);
  • Block 8: Bathonian (BAT);
  • Block 9: Berriasian, Valanginian, Hauterivian, Barremian (BER-BAR);
  • Block 21: Callovian (CLV);
  • Block 20: Cenomanian, Turonian, Senonian, Maastrichtian (CEN-MAA);
  • Block 36: Hettangian, Sinemurian and Pliensbachian (HET-PBN);
  • Block 40: Kimmeridgian (KIM);
  • Block 73: Neogene (NEO);
  • Block 63: Oxfordian (OXF);
  • Block 72: Palaeogene (PGN);
  • Block 90: Portlandian - Berriasian (PTL-BER);
  • Block 91: Rhaetian (RTN);
  • Block 98: Toarcian (TOA);
  • Block 104: Wealden (WDN).
