Sphagnum: a field guide 1992

Abstract

Species of Sphagnum have a reputation among non-bryologists of being difficult to identify, yet the genus as a whole is of unparalleled importance among bryophyte genera in defining communities, and is extensively used in the National Vegetation Classification.

Keys illustrated by line drawings to aid the non-specialist in identifying species in this critical moss genus which is used extensively in the National Vegetation Classification. The key is a revision by Hodgetts and Payne (1992), of an earlier key by Hill (1976), and is designed to be used by non-specialists to determine species of Sphagnum in the field.
