GCR block descriptions: Precambrian and Structural Geology 2007

Abstract

Provided here are the Precambrian and Structural Geology GCR block descriptions, produced as part of the Geological Conservation Review. These ‘blocks’ provided an overall structure for site selection by ensuring that the different themes of geoheritage or Earth science would receive comparable treatment.

The Precambrian and Structural Geology GCR block descriptions provided here include the following:

  • Block 2: Alpine Structures of Southern England (ALP-STR-SE);
  • Block 107: Caledonian Structures of Shetland (CAL-STR-SD);
  • Block 13: Caledonian Structures of the Lake District (CAL-STR-LD);
  • Block 14: Caledonian Structures of the Southern Uplands (CAL-STR-SU);
  • Block 15: Caledonian Structures of Wales (CAL-STR-WL);
  • Block 25: Dalradian (DAL);
  • Block 43: Lewisian (LEW);
  • Block 56: Moine (MOINE);
  • Block 88: Precambrian of England & Wales (PRE-EG-WL);
  • Block 89: Precambrian Palaeontology (PRE-PAL);
  • Block 99: Torridonian (TOR);
  • Block 102: Variscan Structures of South-West England (VAR-STR-SW).
  • Block 103: Variscan Structures of South Wales and the Mendips (VAR-STR-WM);

GCR block descriptions are based largely on existing GCR publications, where available. More detailed information about the topics covered in each block can be found in the relevant GCR volume.
