UK Biodiversity Framework 2024

Abstract

The UK Biodiversity Framework (UKBF) has been developed in response to the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), agreed at the Fifteen Conference of the Parties (COP15) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in December 2022.

The UK Biodiversity Framework has been produced through the Four Countries’ Biodiversity Group (4CBG), which is the lead governance body for the UKBF, and which includes representatives from DAERA, Defra, Scottish Government, and Welsh Government, with JNCC providing an independent secretariat role.

Through the UKBF, the four countries will agree on activities where joint action between them four countries is required to implement the GBF.

The UK Biodiversity Framework was published in May 2024. It supersedes the previous Framework (the UK Post-2010 UK Biodiversity Framework), which was developed following agreement of the CBD’s Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and the ‘Aichi targets’.
