Cladonia: a field guide 1992

Abstract

Cladonia is an extensive and difficult genus of lichens, but one that is extremely valuable in defining many plant communities, particularly heathlands.

The guide makes use of illustrations and relatively few simple characters to define the species, and to differentiate Cladonia from some superficially similar genera. Keys and line drawings are provided, enabling the non-specialist to identify most British and Irish species of this important lichen genus, whose species are extensively used in the National Vegetation Classification.
