Abstract

This resource relates to a Web Map Service (WMS) layer showing Highly Protected Marine Area (HPMA) boundaries in English inshore and offshore waters. It was last updated in July 2023 and compiled using data from JNCC, Natural England and Ordnance Survey.

Highly Protected Marine Areas are Marine Conservation Zones protecting the whole marine ecosystem within their boundaries. They are designated under the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009.

The layer is available to view on the JNCC MPA mapper and can also be accessed via our WMS: https://mpa-ows.jncc.gov.uk/mpa_mapper/wms
