Assessing progress towards an ecologically coherent network of Marine Protected Areas in the Northern Ireland inshore region 2018

Abstract

The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) asked JNCC to assess the progress of the MPA network in the Northern Ireland inshore region against Northern Ireland’s marine conservation policy commitments. The process and findings of this network assessment was published by JNCC in 2018 in this report. The assessment determined what ecological gaps were present in the network and which could be addressed using current information on the presence and distribution of MPA features.
