A global review of long-term Marine Protected Area monitoring programmes: Volumes 1 and 2 2011

Abstract

Long-term monitoring of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) is a requirement for successful adaptive management and global biodiversity conservation. There is now substantial scientific evidence which demonstrates the positive effects of MPAs. However, some scientists have voiced their concerns about the scientific credibility of MPA monitoring, in particular the inappropriate design and statistical analysis techniques used in some MPA monitoring programmes.
