Defining Annex I biogenic Modiolus modiolus reef habitat under the Habitats Directive 2015

Abstract

This report intends to present existing definitions of M. modiolus ‘bed’ and ‘reef’; describe the fundamental ecology and variation in M. modiolus reef and current problems with confident identification of Annex I biogenic M. modiolus reef; summarise workshop presentations; and utilise discussion points to conclude with a definitive guide on how to confidently assign survey records to the Annex I biogenic M. modiolus reef habitat under the EC Habitats Directive.
