Advice on Operations Guidance for Offshore English Highly Protected Marine Areas 2023

Abstract

This guidance sets out the contents of the site-specific Advice on Operations workbooks for offshore Highly Protected Marine Areas (HPMAs) and how they may be used to assess the impacts of an activity on the marine ecosystem feature of the HPMA.

The information included in this guidance, and the site-specific Advice on Operations workbooks, is provided for use at an early stage of a plan or project when considering the potential impacts of an activity on the protected feature of an HPMA. To understand potential impacts of activities, the Advice on Operations would need to be used in conjunction with the specific details of a plan or project (e.g. indirect and/or additive impacts, activity duration, time of year, scale, etc.), along with the remainder of JNCC’s conservation advice for the specific HPMA.
