Corporate UK Biodiversity

Abstract

These documents support response indicator A5 – Integration of biodiversity considerations into business activity. The documents include a datasheet.

This indicator shows the number of ISO (‘International Organization for Standardization’) 14001 certifications in the UK as a proportion of the total number of medium (50 to 249 employees) and large (at least 250 employees) businesses in the UK.

It is a proxy for the number of medium and large businesses in the UK that are taking steps to minimise their environmental impact as measured by the proportion of these businesses with ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) certification.

Lineage
The UK Biodiversity Indicators were first published in 2007. They were created to provide a measure for reporting on the UK’s progress towards meeting international biodiversity goals and targets. The indicators were comprehensively reviewed during 2011 and 2012 to ensure they continued to be based on the most robust and reliable available data, and remained relevant to the new international goals and targets developed in 2010 and 2011.
