Policy interventions to encourage sustainable consumption 2023

Abstract

This report aims to summarise policy interventions that could be used by governments to influence the sustainability of consumption.

The report begins by introducing readers to the policy context and scope of the document. It then explores audiences that could be targeted by sustainable consumption policy interventions. Next, it identifies key barriers to sustainable consumption that policy interventions could aim to overcome. Finally, it runs through a range of possible policy interventions grouped by type, giving examples of where these have been implemented and, where information is available, commenting on the effectiveness of their implementation and other factors that would need to be considered.
