Croker Carbonate Slabs cSAC/SCI CEND23/15 Marine Mammal Observations Report 2016

Abstract

This report details seismic operations and implementation of JNCC guidelines during a geophysical survey of the Croker Carbonate Slabs cSAC/SCI.

Summary

JNCC, in partnership with Cefas, undertook a geophysical and environmental monitoring survey of the Croker Carbonate Slabs cSAC/SCI between the 25 October and the 5 November 2015 on board the RV Cefas Endeavour (CEND 2315). The aim of the survey was to identify and map the methane derived authigenic carbonates (MDAC) which have been created by the seeping of the underlying gas into the substrate. Geophysical operations included the use of multi-beam echo sounders, side-scan sonar and sub bottom profiling boomer.
