An economic valuation and qualitative analysis of the commercial fishing sector in Montserrat 2017

Abstract

The role of artisanal fisheries in the nutrition, food security and poverty alleviation for households all over the world cannot be underestimated. However, their socioeconomic relevance, especially in coastal tropical areas such as the Wider Caribbean Region (WCR), remains poorly understood. The Caribbean island of Montserrat is no exception to this, and almost no information about the economic value of its commercial fisheries is currently available. This study constitutes an attempt to fill in that void.
