The Canyons MCZ Monitoring Report 2017 2025

Abstract

This report explores environmental and ecological sample data, primarily acquired from the CEND0917 survey of The Canyons Marine Conservation Zone (MCZ) in 2017. The Canyons MCZ is located in the far south-west corner of the UK continental shelf and is unique within the context of England’s largely shallow seas, due to its depth, seabed topography and the cold-water coral features. The report is intended to serve as first point in a monitoring time series. It also includes recommendations to inform continual improvement and development of sample acquisition, analysis and data interpretation for future survey and reporting.
