UK Marine Monitoring DNA Workshop Report 2025

Abstract

This report summarises the discussions from the UK Marine Monitoring DNA Workshop, hosted by JNCC on 3 and 4 March 2025 in Peterborough, UK, and funded by the Defra DNA Centre of Excellence. Participants from across government, research and academia and consultancy sectors, representing 28 organisations, met to share their knowledge and experience and discuss the challenges and uncertainties of using biomolecular methods in marine monitoring.

The workshop was designed to facilitate a better understanding of current knowledge, identify barriers and actions needed to overcome these, and to reach a consensus on priority areas of focus. The workshop outputs will enable UK Marine Biomolecular Group, led by JNCC, to develop a plan to coordinate and enable collaboration in the delivery of the work going-forward.
