Common Standards Monitoring Guidance for Marine 2004

Abstract

This guidance deals with common standards monitoring (CSM) guidance for the marine environment (the 'simple' habitat level features (rock, sediment) and the 'complex' physiographic features (lagoons, estuaries) made up by a range of 'simple' habitats) on designated sites, including SSSIs, ASSIs and SACs. It includes advice on the identification of interest features, attributes, targets and methods of assessment.

In addition, there is a generic introduction that introduces the key issues to be initially considered when setting objectives and selecting attributes to define favourable condition, and generic advice on the process for judging the condition of the feature following the monitoring activities. It is essential that the marine generic introduction is read prior to using the guidance for specific features.
