Abstract

The UK BAP publication 'Biodiversity: The UK Steering Group Report', and accompanying Action Plans were produced between 1995 and 1999. The information is divided into a series of different documents. These include:

  • Volume 1: Meeting the Rio Challenge (1995)
  • Volume 2: Action Plans (Tranche 1) (1995) – this contained 116 Species Action Plans (SAPs) and 14 Habitat Action Plans (HAPs)
  • Tranche 2 Action Plans: Volume 1 – Vertebrates and Vascular Plants (1998)
  • Tranche 2 Action Plans: Volume 2 – Terrestrial and Freshwater Habitats (1998)
  • Tranche 2 Action Plans: Volume 3 – Plants and Fungi (1998)
  • Tranche 2 Action Plans: Volume 4 – Invertebrates (1998)
  • Tranche 2 Action Plans: Volume 5 – Maritime Species and Habitats (1999)
  • Tranche 2 Action Plans: Volume 6 – Terrestrial and Freshwater Species and Habitats (1999)

By the time the final volume (Volume 6) was published in 1999, 391 SAPs (including 11 grouped action plans), and 104 Species Statements had been created, and the total number of priority species was reported to be 577. In addition, HAPs had been created for 45 priority habitats.
