Abstract

Natural Capital accounts report for St Helena. Provision, regulating & cultural ecosystem services. Natural capital accounting is the process of compiling data on the quantity and quality of a region’s natural capital assets as well as the physical and monetary values of the benefits they provide. The data are presented in a structured way to measure and monitor the benefits consistently over time. These accounts provide a source of information for policy makers to aid them resolve matters pertaining the natural environment. Additionally, these datasets can support other national accounts to inform policy and planning decisions. In the same way that the structured recording of other national statistics in conventional national accounts can potentially inform and improve a country’s policy making, natural capital accounts can enable more informed decisions to be made regarding the natural environment.
