UK National Report on the Implementation of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands 2021

Abstract

As a party to the Ramsar Convention, the UK is required to submit a report every three years to the Ramsar Secretariat on the UK’s experience of implementing the Convention ahead of each Conference of the Parties to the Convention.

The 2021 UK National Report was prepared for the 14th Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties (COP14), held in Wuhan (China) and Geneva (Switzerland), from 5 to 13 November 2022.

The report follows a standard format and covers a range of topics that are organised around three sections:

  • institutional information about the Administrative Authority and National Focal Points for the national implementation of the Ramsar Convention;
  • information on various aspects of national implementation progress and recommendations for the future; and
  • information about 90 implementation indicator questions that are grouped under each of the Convention implementation Goals and Targets in the Strategic Plan 2016-2024.

The report was collated by JNCC on behalf of Defra and the Devolved Administrations. A list of organisations who contributed and/or were consulted on the information provided is contained in the report. This includes contributions from government, statutory nature conservation bodies and the wider stakeholder community.

The report was submitted to the Ramsar Secretariat in December 2021.
