Coastal vegetated shingle structures of Great Britain (Main Report and Appendices) 1993

Abstract

Available here is the main report and three accompanying appendices of the publication 'Coastal vegetated shingle structures of Great Britain':

  • Main Report
  • Appendix 1 – Shingle sites in Wales
  • Appendix 2 – Shingle sites in Scotland
  • Appendix 3 – Shingle sites in England

The main report comprises the final definition of communities encountered on the shingle substrate and their relation to existing communities identified by the NVC. The appendices provide information on shingle sites in the three countries of Great Britain:

This work was conducted within the framework of the National Vegetation Classification (NVC) in order to assess the applicability of existing NVC categories to the shingle communities and, where appropriate, to extend the NVC by highlighting any new communities identified.

Also provided is a spreadsheet providing a cross-tabulation between the Coastal Vegetation Shingle communities defined in this report and NVC communities, produced as part of a subsequent project in 2010.
