Designing personalised feedback to inspire biological recorders 2025

Abstract

These reports highlight the importance of improving biodiversity monitoring through citizen science by using informative feedback. Such feedback enhances data quality and keeps participants engaged.

JNCC Report 800A (Designing personalised feedback to inspire biological recorders and fill data gaps) summarises a workshop held during the 2024 UK Terrestrial Evidence Partnerships of Partnerships (UKTEPoP) Autumn Festival. This interactive workshop engaged with the UKTEPoP community with two objectives: to promote the role of feedback in environmental monitoring, and to encourage participants to consider how they could use feedback in their own work.

JNCC Report 800B demonstrates the use of the Recorder Feedback suite of tools for developing and delivering personalised feedback for citizen scientists contributing to the UK Pollinator Monitoring Scheme (UK PoMS). The report also outlines the next steps and the wider vision for implementing feedback in biodiversity monitoring. Overall, this work provides a useful case-study.
