Marine Benthic Data Flows

In order to ensure the swift movement of data from new offshore surveys to reporting, dissemination and to assure the quality of the data through timely quality checks, the flow of JNCC’s offshore marine data has been formalised. The data flow highlights ingestion and QC points, handover between key data roles, formalised points of signoff and onward internal and external dissemination of the data.

Quality Controls & Ingestion

Alongside the data flow, JNCC’s Marine Data Ingestion Protocol (marDIP) provides a consistent and robust suite of checks on received data from offshore surveys. Checks are undertaken, where possible, using predefined functions written in the R programming language, freeing up staff resource, increasing efficiency and ingestion speed and providing a repeatable and auditable process.
