JNCC Environmental Policy
As Chief Executive of the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC), I am pleased to reaffirm our commitment to environmental responsibility, continual improvement, and the principles of ISO 14001.
JNCC is the UK's statutory adviser on nature, working across terrestrial and marine environments to provide scientific evidence and advice to governments and partners. As an organisation dedicated to securing nature's recovery and building resilience for future generations, it is essential that we apply the same high standards to the management of our own environmental impacts that we advocate through our work.
Our Environmental Management System provides a structured framework for identifying, managing and reducing the environmental impacts associated with our operations. It supports our commitment to legal compliance, sustainable resource use, and continual improvement in environmental performance. Through our EMS, we seek not only to minimise our organisational footprint but also to embed environmental responsibility into our culture, decision-making and everyday activities.
Over the past year, colleagues across JNCC have continued to demonstrate strong commitment to sustainable working practices. We have made progress in reducing emissions, improving resource efficiency, strengthening environmental awareness, and ensuring that environmental considerations are integrated into corporate planning and operational delivery. This reflects the dedication of our staff and the importance we place on environmental stewardship throughout the organisation.
The annual audit is an important opportunity to review our performance, evaluate the effectiveness of our management systems, identify opportunities for improvement, and provide assurance that our EMS remains fit for purpose. We welcome this process as part of our commitment to transparency, accountability and continuous learning.
I would like to thank all colleagues who contribute to the successful operation of our EMS. Together, we are ensuring that JNCC not only supports nature recovery through its science, evidence and advice but also demonstrates leadership through the way we manage our own environmental responsibilities.
